it's just weird that Democrats which kill hundreds of thousands of Republican soldiers are looked so fondly upon by Republicans

seriously though, i'm sure a lot of Republicans who answered this poll don't even know who Jefferson Davis is, so they just answered in opposition to Obama, not in support of Davis, but then it's like.... why didn't they pick the "not sure" option then?? i guess it could be the Jimmy Kimmel man-on-the-street type craziness..

It's really more that 80% of Trump supporters are either not sure, or would prefer Jefferson Davis over Obama as President.

Robert E. Lee didn't personally support slavery and thought it was an abomination. However, he personally believed the Union was committing war crimes by attacking innocent people so he agreed to lead the Confederate armies.

Of course, snowflakes who haven't cared about these statues for decades are now pretending to for easy political points.

It must just be a guttural misinformed impulse to automatically vote against Obama at all times. Imagine actual Jefferson Davis in a presidential debate, not understanding literally anything about modern technology, diplomacy, or economics. He wouldn't even make it through the primaries.

This is all Lost Cause bulls***. Robert E. Lee owned a multitude of slaves and writings have him treating them worse than average. He also wrote down how he thought slavery was good for black people as it helped teach them.

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/us-neo-nazi-support-american-public-charlottesville-white-supremacists-kkk-far-right-poll-a7907091.html
http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/28-approve-trumps-response-charlottesville-poll/story?id=49334079

Nine per cent of Americans say holding neo-Nazi or white supremacist views is acceptable, according to a new poll.

The Washington Post ABC poll was carried out in the wake of the deadly racially-charged violence which erupted at a white supremacist rally in Charlottesville earlier this month. If extrapolated to the entire US population, nine per cent would equate to 22 million people.

This is the fifth scientific poll done in the past 2 weeks that measures support for far-right policies.

I haven't had time to read the survey (plus i don't have a WaPo subscription) but i thought i'd drop this off here anyway

On Charlottesville, again, the patterns are similar, while lower across the board. Sixty-two
percent of Republicans approve of Trump%u2019s response; this plummets to 28 percent of
independents and 6 percent of Democrats. It%u2019s 54-20-8 percent from conservatives to moderates
to liberals. And 72 percent of conservative Republicans approve of Trump%u2019s response; across the
political chasm, 3 percent of liberal Democrats agree.

There%u2019s far more agreement on whether it%u2019s acceptable or unacceptable to hold neo-Nazi or white
supremacist views. Across groups, 4 to 17 percent call this acceptable, with the largest numbers
among men, Republicans and strong conservatives, all 13 percent; young adults, 14 percent; and
those who strongly approve of the president%u2019s work in office, 17 percent.
An additional 13 percent of strong Trump supporters have no opinion on whether it%u2019s acceptable
or not. That leaves 70 percent of his strong supporters who call neo-Nazi or white supremacist
views unacceptable, compared with 92 percent of his strong opponents.

13% of American men believe it is acceptable to hold neo-Nazi/white supremacist views
13% of Republicans and "strong conservatives" agree

14% of young adults believe it is acceptable to hold neo-Nazi/white supremacist views

What we're seeing on GameFAQs appears to be rather proportional to the American public at large.

Which, I suppose, is why Lee owned slaves himself, and was even by the standards of the time quite brutal in his treatment of them. His "opposition" to slavery was on the basis that he considered it a burden on white people.

And the Union had yet to "attack" anybody, let alone "innocent people", at the time Lee chose to join the Confederacy.

He's saying "it's weird" because Republicans still use the "Republicans freed the slaves" line while ignoring the clear shift of geographic party location. Which is weird, because the parts of the country didn't shift, but where the parties were dominant sure did.

Obviously there must be something wrong with President Obama if 45% of Trump supporters them are desperate enough to choose Jefferson Davis over him but only 7% (less than the nation as a whole!) have favorable views of Neo-Nazis and white supremacists.
