President Donald Trump has certified that Iran is complying with the nuclear deal reached under President Barack Obama, although he added in his message to Congress that Iran is also “unquestionably in default of the spirit” of the deal.

According to The New York Times, Trump actively resisted the advice of his foreign policy advisers urging him to certify Iranian compliance:

At an hourlong meeting last Wednesday, all of the president’s major security advisers recommended he preserve the Iran deal for now. Among those who spoke out were Secretary of State Rex W. Tillerson; Defense Secretary Jim Mattis; Lt. Gen. H. R. McMaster, the national security adviser; and Gen. Joseph F. Dunford Jr., the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, according to an official who described internal discussions on the condition of anonymity. The official said Mr. Trump had spent 55 minutes of the meeting telling them he did not want to.

So this is entirely about partisan politics and nothing to do with legitimate criticism. I think Trump should pull out btw, and think he screwed up here.

The only reason this is a topic is because Trump called it the worst deal ever, but as is usually the case Obama was right.

And it proves trumpsters are secretly just racist Obama haters
if you don't want Trump to be mocked, maybe he shoudn't have bitched about it constantly?

If nothing else, preserving the Iran deal will give us a lasting reminder of what egregious judgment Trump's predecessor had for even entertaining such a harebrained agreement.

They have been arming Hezbollah to kill Americans for decades. Why Obama rewarded them for that is ridiculous.

Trump has an opportunity every 90 days to pull out. He should do so asap. This was a horrible deal negotiated by the previous administration.

Why shouldn't we criticize a politician that blatantly flip-flops on a position?

Not to mention a 70-year old manchild who apparently spent most of the meeting whining to people who know better than him that he doesn't care about facts, he just hates Iran?

Iran has armed Hezbollah (and continues to do so), which has been murdering Americans and Jews for decades. I say Jews because they have committed terrorism outside of Israel just to kill Jews.

Iran will get nuclear power and weapons even faster under the deal. Iran continues to test missiles and the Ayatollah even said Iran's future is in missiles, not negotiations. Obama didn't even get American hostages back under this deal. This was an awful deal for our allies and our presence in the Middle East. Obama gave up American supremacy for nothing in return.

Trump complained about the Iran deal, and promised day one he'd scrap it.

Maybe he should have been better informed, or most likely, he said what people wanted to hear.

https://www.nytimes.com/2016/08/23/opinion/the-fake-400-million-iran-ransom-story.html

What really happened was this: President Obama announced the $400 million payment along with the release of the Americans in January, the day that the nuclear deal was implemented. But the money was part of a separate negotiation over funds the United States has owed Iran since its 1979 Islamic Revolution.

At that time, Washington froze Iranian assets in the United States, including money paid by Tehran for military hardware that the United States never delivered after its ally there, the shah, was overthrown. In 1981, the two countries agreed that a tribunal at The Hague would adjudicate the legal claims.

The United States and Iran have wrestled with this issue for decades, but efforts to reach a settlement intensified once the two sides began work on the nuclear deal. Tribunal decisions are binding, and the administration concluded it would lose at The Hague; in addition to $400 million, Iran was seeking billions of dollars in accumulated interest.

How can I spin that for my agenda? I'm pro trump right now.
People forget Iran gave 97% of the Uranium up as part of the deal and lost about 90% of their enrichment ability. People who say this accelerated them acquiring a nuke don't understand the issue, namely the formation of a nuclear weapon

http://www.timesofisrael.com/iran-army-chief-threatens-us-bases-if-sanctions-imposed/

Iran's army head threatened to bomb us if we put the sanctions back in place. We are being extorted.

http://www.timesofisrael.com/trump-was-talked-out-of-declaring-iran-in-breach-of-nuke-deal/

Trump was talked out of declaring Iran in breach of nuke deal

Trump agreed Monday night to let the issue go, but only for a few more months — and only after last-minute changes to distance Trump further from the deal.

A lot of people have been talked into thinking Iran isn't as bad as it really is. A lot of people want to believe what they want to believe, to avoid the headache, to avoid making waves and risking conflict, to avoid action. So all they do is talk, and the problem only gets worse, for decades.

It would be great if Iran was suddenly nice and the threat was over, but this is not reality. It just isn't the case. Look at the facts and do not be fooled! Real leaders make the difficult decisions that everyone else wants to shy away from.

We cannot afford to make the same appeasement mistakes again. We cannot allow a second Holocaust, which Iran has vowed to do.

The deadline comes up again in three months. Given Trump’s strong reluctance to certify Iran’s compliance, it’s highly unlikely he will agree to do it again, officials and others familiar with Trump’s Iran policy said.

Coupled with the new sanctions, the move raised optimism among critics of the deal that Trump’s broader Iran review, expected to conclude in the next few weeks, will mark a major shift in the US approach to the Islamic Republic.

“What that really foreshadows is once the policy review is done, we’re going to see a massive increase in pressure — not just sanctions pressure but using all instruments of American power,” said Mark Dubowitz, who runs the hawkish Foundation for Defense of Democracies and has advised the administration on Iran.

The drama came to a head Monday when Trump abruptly put the certification on hold, even as his administration had already started announcing it.

Top advisers scurried to the White House, with Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, Defense Secretary Jim Mattis and national security adviser H.R. McMaster urging Trump to preserve the status quo — at least until the Iran review is completed and a new US policy ready to be unveiled. Steve Bannon, Trump’s chief strategist and an avowed critic of the deal, and CIA Director Mike Pompeo urged Trump to change course and say Iran wasn’t complying, several individuals briefed on the meeting said.

The argument that ultimately won out: Letting Iran keeps its sanctions relief — thus fulfilling US obligations under the deal — without using the word “complying.”

There had better be some changes coming soon, or we are giving Iran a free pass whenever it wants to break the deal. The American people did not send Republicans to DC in droves just to sit around on the same failed status quo.

“The administration is continuing to conduct a full review of US policy toward Iran,” said State Department spokeswoman Heather Nauert. “During the course of this review, the United States will continue to aggressively counter Iran’s malign activities in the region.”

To anyone who has been following this from day 1, there isn't much to review. A near veto-proof majority in Congress did not want Obama unilaterally forcing a non-treaty treaty without a vote, which he easily would've lost (and did lose). He sent planes full of cash to Iran's regime. The day Obama signed it, Iranians were dancing in the streets. We are getting played, big time.
