He needs to go on TV and say plain as day "If you use nuclear weapons on our soil we will act in kind, and you and every one of your citizens will die." It won't do anything but maybe it will shake the North Korean public enough to put up a resistance. No one wants to die no matter who their "god" is.

I don't advocate nukes btw. But MAD dictates that if we're nuked we have no choice but to retaliate in kind

Lol, are we even in a MAD situation with them? NK has like 20 20kt nukes.

The USSR and USA once had tens of thousands of nukes, each.

And some of them were in the megatons.

If we don't nuke them back it will show we won't follow through if a real MAD situation happens. We need that fear to keep a real nuclear attack from happening.

Donald Trump’s meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping is looking like it is beginning to pay some solid dividends.

this was from april

since then they "launched an ICBM" (I still don't think it was an ICBM. It's based off a two stage soviet missile with half the range. you can't just double the range by doubling length of such a motor). But clearly no "dividends" were produced from that meeting. China continues to trade with NK. NK continues to advance its missile tech, even if by standards exaggerated in public discourse.

good job posting an old, highly biased article that was proven not to be accurate by recent events though

what on earth makes you think any regular people in NK would see that broadcast

the US and NATO in general does not have a 'no first strike' doctrine so it is understood by hostile governments that we could begin a nuclear strike at any time

the statements you suggest are understood by our general military doctrines and their goal isn't to actually launch a nuclear weapon, but to render us unable to hold up existing military commitments to regional allies who encircle NK.

a nation with a leader that kills its own people for looking at him the wrong way is going to be afraid that someone else is going to kill his people? and you REALLY think he's going to allow that video to air anywhere in NK? they don't have the internet and their television is Government regulated......Even then, IF they saw it...many would defend NK either because of brainswashing or fear of death at the hands of the Government.....TC I don't think you know much about this situation....

The North Korean deep state will not let Kim Jong Un drive the DPRK into oblivion.

If anything, the government's development of weapons is a mechanism of deterrence against larger powers meddling in their affairs like countries that conceded to their demands (see: Libya, Iraq).

So what you're saying is, he should say he would do what every other president since the inception of nuclear weapons would do in case of nuclear war? full retaliation?

my god you're a genius!
What if instead he says he'll flush a koran down the toilet

its key point--that a coal embargo was in effect--seems to have been violated mere weeks later as DPRK ships were allowed to continue unloading their coal in chinese ports. china claims the coal didn't pass through customs. i will assume they're not just flatly lying about that, but they certainly could be.

it's putting a public face on this. in practice china is propping up DPRK by giving them significantly more in trade than they are getting. whether they are buying coal or simply handing them resources is not relevant. either way the administration is being propped up, and a coal embargo does not change that.

considering the DPRK administration clearly did not care about this embargo (likely because it just changed the arrangement of the chinese funds supporting them and not the quantity) it's safe to say it was not an effective solution

i will laugh if all of trump's chatter about helping coal is replacing DPRK with us. their coal exports total 950 million dollars. chump change.

also the propaganda piece about the airfield strike was hilarious considering it was operational again within 24 hours

And I'm pretty sure he chose the other option. Y'know, getting out of the topic? Still waiting for you to catch up.
Wait, are people still arguing about this?

Citizens in North Korea don't have access to any press conferences in America, or literally any media. Everything is censored and controlled. It would have zero effect, and pretty much every president has already made it clear America would respond if attacked.

Not only that, North Korea is just saber rattling. Even if they had the capabilities to build a bomb, which is pretty f***ing shakey as is, they don't have the technology to deliver it. That's just as important. They also have their soldiers equipped with bayonets and WWII era weaponry and half their army is children and the elderly, so it's not like they could put up much of a fight anyway.

China is not helping North Korea anywhere near as much as you seem to think.
