  3. Krauthammer: Trumpcare is an epic failure in part because of Trump's leadership

Charles Krauthammer today said that Trumpcare was a disaster in part because of weak leadership from Trump. He rightly pointed out the dozens of press conferences Obama did to make the case directly to the American people that Obamacare was a good thing. He then asked why you didn't see any of that from Trump. The answer, of course, is that Trump is a terrible president whose idea of leadership is shit posting on Twitter.

He might have a good point. Trump didnt do enough to sell it to the American people. Sounds like a legitimate criticism.

Didn't Trump consistently say how easy health care was and how he was going to fix it? Didn't he say it was going to be cheaper and better because he had a plan?

No sir, you don't get to throw this at anyone. The ball is in your court. Make your move. Standing still will only lose you the game.

He also doesn't know enough about it to answer even basic questions about it. It's more than just a lack of leadership. It's a lack of basic knowledge and competence.

I am actually glad that Obamacare wasnt repealed because I want Republicans to maintain their majorities. I also think Trump would lose his shot for 2020 since repealing Obamacare would hurt Trumpocrats (Dems who voted for Trump). I also think he's screwed up by not withdrawing from the Iran deal, not repealing DACA, and giving Ivanka too much relevance. I also think he says a lot of stupid shit and should stay quiet about many things. I hoped to God he wasnt going to fire Comey; when he did I shook my head for a while.

It also didn't help that he changed his tune so much. Celebrate on the rose garden. Oh wait bill was too mean. Replace Obamacare. Repeal. Oh let it fail.

Meanwhile he never sold the actual bill. He sold that Obamacare sucks. He sold the concept of a replacement. He did these things well. But never sold any particulars of the actual bill.

It's hard to sell a bill you don't understand.

I agree. I am a Trump supporter but my support for him was not based on repealing Obamacare. At this point, ACA is a reality. Taking it away from the public would be a political disaster for Republicans for at least a decade. I voted for him on issues of national security, immigration, judicial nominations, gun rights, pulling out of Paris, etc.

It's not unlike Hillary's campaign, really. She spent too much time trying to convince everyone how bad Trump was and not enough time selling herself.

Throughout this entire process Paul Ryan is the only one who actually tried to sell the American people on the merits of Trumpcare. He did a poor job and came across as an heartless weasel, but he did make the case that his rob-the-poor-to-give-to-the-rich bill was a good thing. McConnell and Trump made no such efforts.

Trump doesn't know how to be a politician and rightfully represent the needs of his constituents, all he knows is how to be a shady "businessman" (conman) and serve his own interests. Anyone who thought his presidency was going to be any different is fucking delusional.

Trump is the perfect person who would say "we need to pass this to know what is in it!"

Bad enough the first time, but another fucking level with Trump's bullshit character.

Hmmmmm

He's right, but for the wrong reasons.

I don't think the problem is the messenger. It's the message. Or rather, the lack of one.

And the "in part" is right. President Trump does not have a message. Neither do the Republicans in Congress.

They should have drafted a Repeal bill and a Replace bill and voted on them concurrently.

Then when Repeal fails they can say "oh well blame it on the Democrats."

Blame should be on the 8 years of repealing and then now they can't even get the votes to repeal.

No Trump supporter blames Trump for this, they just see more swamp to be drained. You think the swamp isn't on both sides of the aisle?

Actually Krauthammer isn't a never-Trumper. He went from saying there's nothing to the Trump-Russia thing to saying if there wasn't anything special about Jr.'s meeting, then why all the lies? He's just not a partisan hack, which will offend any Trump lover.

Of course questioning dear leader caused a frenzy among the fanatics, making him a traitor or some other dumb shit they use to justify when a Republican wisely breaks away from Trump.

It's also Trump's fault because he didn't have a plan. At all. So congress came up with one, and it became his. At least he's outsourcing to Americans I guess.
