Considering our military forces greatly depend on satellites to be able to function we absolutely do have to be concerned with space warfare.

Memeing aside, dedicating a portion of the military to the space domain in smart, because as we focus more on peer adversaries it's going to become the new "front line" of any military operation. As it is, losing GPS basically ruins any operation before it begins.

Anyway, I do remember Congress specifically calling for this last year (or was it 2016? time is flying). Their intent was to create a separate branch to manage space asset development, deployment and operation because they believed that the Air Force was siphoning funding from the "space budget" for other, non-space related stuff. And of course no one wanted it back then so I don't know why Trump would bring it up again...
