President Trump has thrown his support behind removing the Church of Scientology's tax-exempt status, according to a Huffington Post report. This isn't something be made into policy and likely probably would be hard to accomplish. But if Trump could accomplish this, this would be something good. |

Scientology is a disgusting thing that should lose any and all benefits and its leaders imprisoned for the horrible shit they do. |

This would probably work in favour for Scientology in terms of public sympathy, considering the antagonism he inspires against himself. i'd honestly be sympathetic with trump over the church of scientology, and i absolutely fucking despise everything about trump. that's how awful the church of scientology is and its (powerful) members are. |

It's not a good idea to let the president or government in general decide which churches get tax exempt status. I despise Scientology as much as any sane thinking person but this is road you don't want to go down. Personally I don't think any church should be tax exempt, but it's all or nothing. Otherwise you start allowing the persecution of religions the government doesn't like via removal of their tax exempt statuses.

The Catholic church has easily done as much damage to individuals as Scientology, seeing as how there was/is an institutional cover up of the molestation of thousands of children over the last 50-60 years, but you don't see Trump calling for an end to their tax exempt status. Why? Because they are a mainstream religion.
